Since the Ottoman Empire, lokum has been produced in the east Istanbul district of Kadikoy, where Europe and Asia meet. The family who hand-craft ours have been perfecting their recipe there for more than 200 years.
If they’ve learnt one thing it’s that you can’t hurry quality: each small batch of ingredients is carefully brought to the boil, then simmered for up to 3 hours, before being gently poured into wooden trays and left to cool for ten more hours. Only then is it ready to be cut and dusted with fine icing sugar before being wrapped, boxed and given the Harremia label. in the past merchants would bring the best ingredients from across the Ottoman Empire to Istanbul, and still today every ingredient used to create our mouthwatering delicacies comes from Anatolia so that our lokum combines the nostalgic flavours of the past with the exciting tastes of the present.
